La Nouvelle Maison by Henry Van de Velde

Description Practical

(t)House untouched by time

La Nouvelle Maison in Tervuren is one of the most personal and refined creations by Henry van de Velde—an internationally renowned architect who actually started out as a painter and went on to become an influential figure in design and modernist architecture. The house, where he lived with his family from 1929 onwards, was recently restored with exceptional care under the direction of Guido Stegen. The original colors, subtle lines, and meticulous detailing were brought back to life, allowing the building to shine once again as Van de Velde had intended.

Van de Velde's vision was unique: he sought a synthesis of art, craftsmanship, and functionality, deliberately breaking with excessive ornamentation. La Nouvelle Maison reflects this evolution in a modernist design language that is both powerful and refined. The rounded corners, the carefully composed masses, and the dialogue between open and closed spaces demonstrate his mastery and his personal interpretation of modernism.

A visit to La Nouvelle Maison is a rare opportunity to experience this masterpiece from the inside. The house remains a discreet and exceptionally private domain, and can only be visited with Korei Guided Tours. During the tour, you will discover how one of the greatest designers of the 20th century translated his ideals into architecture, in a home that remains as timeless and inspiring as ever.

La Nouvelle Maison is not a museum, but a private residence. Please treat the house with respect and do not touch anything.

Photography is prohibited. This is a private residence and we want to respect the owner's privacy. Photographers can sometimes be so focused on getting the perfect shot that they are oblivious to others or the interior, which can cause damage.

Please refrain from leaning against the walls. The walls have been carefully examined and restored.

Wear shoe covers or walk in socks. This helps to keep the interior clean and undamaged. Korei Guided Tours provides shoe covers.

If you do not comply with the guidelines, the supervisor may take action against you. Repeated inappropriate behavior may result in the visit being terminated.

Groups may not exceed 15 people. If your group is larger than this, the tour cannot take place.

Be prepared for rainy weather. Part of the visit takes place in the garden, even when it rains. Leave your umbrellas outside under the awning in the designated storage box. Coats and backpacks can be left in the garage. Placing wet items against the walls can cause stains, which we want to avoid.
