Devalck House: from Art Nouveau heritage to award-winning restoration

Architect-designed house with unique stained glass windows
The Devalck House, a magnificent example of Brussels Art Nouveau, was designed in 1900 by architect Gaspard Devalck as a gift for his mother. The building showcases his characteristic attention to detail: the white stone façade is broken up by sleek strips of bluestone and delineated by fine lines of red brick, creating a harmonious and elegant pattern. Devalck later established his own studio there, turning the house into both a private residence and a workshop, imbued with creativity and craftsmanship.
What makes Huis Devalck truly special are the beautifully preserved stained glass windows by master glassmaker Raphaël Evaldre. The windows bring the light to life and tell subtle stories in color and motif, giving each room a unique atmosphere. These artistic elements make the house not only an architectural gem, but also a living work of art that reflects the rich history of Brussels and its craftsmen. For visitors, it is an extraordinary experience to admire the details up close during a guided tour.
Thanks to careful restoration, Huis Devalck was awarded a heritage prize, recognition for the quality and respect with which the building was restored. The current residents are completely enamored with their home and speak passionately about its history, architecture, and the works of art that adorn it. A visit inside Devalck House offers not only a glimpse of the splendor of early 20th-century Brussels, but also a story of dedication, creativity, and love for heritage—an experience you won't soon forget.
